SADiE announces PCM-H128 digital audio multitrack recorder

Cambridge, UK - February 2006 - Based on the acclaimed SADiE PCM-H64 DAW, the new PCM-H128 offers a compact and cost-effective solution for high track-count audio acquisition in studios or outside-broadcast trucks.

Offering up to 128 channels of MADI, AES or high quality analogue I/O, the H128 records industry-standard Broadcast WAV, AIFF or SDII files directly to Windows or Macintosh formatted disks, providing audio compatibility with all mixing and post-production facilities.

Designed to be as compact as possible, the H128 system takes up as little as 4U of rack space when used as a 128 input/output MADI recorder for direct connection to a digital console. This makes it a very attractive solution for O/B trucks where space is limited. If required, additional analogue conversion racks may be added with 64 channels of both A/D and D/A in just 3U of rack space per unit, plus other combinations of i/o.

Uniquely, the SADiE PCM-H128 configuration may be changed to provide a 48-channel 192kHz recorder, which is believed to be a world first for a single integrated unit.

The H128 can be fully machine-controlled from recording consoles, providing remote capability via standard RS422 interfaces, including track arming of all channels. This makes it the perfect recorder for use with consoles such as the SSL™ digital range and many others. Many features of the H128 were designed with live recording in mind, such as hard-drive mirroring, a clear and simple single-window multitrack software interface, and guaranteed audio integrity in case of power failure. Additionally, metadata embedded directly within the BWAV files contain information about track number, timecode, take number, and other pertinent session data - this can be made available in both DEVA™ and iXML formats. Any on-site edit decisions may be exported as SADiE, AES-31 or AAF projects, or Pro Tools™ sessions.

For more complex on-site editing and broadcast operations, the full SADiE 5 workstation software is supplied with every H128 recorder system in addition to the dedicated multitrack recorder interface.

"When considering the requirements of a multitrack recorder for outside broadcast, we quickly realised that there was a gap in the market for a compact, affordable and intuitive system which avoided using cumbersome racks of separate I/O modules", commented Joe Bull, SADiE M.D. "In designing the PCM-H128 to take up so little rack space yet still providing full functionality, we believe that it's the perfect complement to any studio or O/B truck, whether analogue or digital."
